It’s very late in the evening, but we finally managed to release Fontcase 1.1. The biggest new thing is support for plug-ins.
Plugins
Anyone with a little knowledge of Cocoa and Objective-C should be able to write their own plug-ins now.
I’ve tried to write a clear howto-guide, but feel free to make any comments, if there’s room for improvement please tell me.
You can find it at bohemiancoding.com/fontcase/developer/.
Some of the plug-ins provide some often-requested features like the ability to export your fontcase collections to the Apple Font Panel and vice versa. Of course these are all free.
And I should mention that anyone that writes a plug-in can get a free license for Fontcase as well. I’d like to help anyone that is interested in writing some kind of plugin, so you can always contact me if you have questions.
Other Stuff
Other new stuff is support for Languages. They will now show up in the sidebar with your tags, genres etc. Also we now have better metadata about dates; the number of activations and the date you last activated a font.
By popular demand, we now also display a badge in the source list with the number of fonts in that collection.
Apart from that, we have a lot of bug-fixes, small feature improvements and some UI-refinements. All in all a pretty decent release I think. Fontcase 1.1 is of course a free update and there’s a 15 day trial.
A new designer
As some of you might know, Fontcase is a cooperation between Laurent Baumann and me, but there’ll be some changes from now. Laurent will no longer be able to work on Fontcase, but together we found another designer to take over his duties. His name is Emanuel Sá and the first work he did on Fontcase was an icon for the new plug-ins. See for yourself:

You’ll have to agree he did a great job. And you’ll see more of his work in my other applications as well, of course.
That’s all for now. The post about the different Fontcase UI’s is still planned, but it had to be delayed a bit for Fontcase 1.1.

First, congratulations on the new release. I look forward some spare time to take a more depth look into Fontcase’s developer framework and see what plugins can come up with.
And last but not least: having worked myself with Emanuel, I can’t be more sure that Laurent left Bohemian Coding with the greatest fellowship. Emanuel, I wish you all the best in this new step of your career. Of course, same for Laurent and Pieter.
Cheers!
